On propagation
Around April of each year, I order praying mantis egg pods, also called an ootheca.
About a month to eight weeks after their arrival around a hundred and fifty baby praying mantises are ready, chipper, and anxious to get out into the garden. It’s one of the happiest days of my year: baby release day.
But, I rarely see them after that. Then last week, Barb saw one on a decorative light out front.
Their release makes me feel alive. Seeing them after they’ve been loose for a while further deepens my joy in life.
The one you see above is a baby, probably hatched from an unknown egg case in our yard. Likely, it’s a grandbaby from last year’s brood.
We can still propagate however old we are. Propagation isn’t merely a physical act. It also happens with the way we engage with life each day. Look at Nature. It’s making every effort to remind you of this truth.
